As technology and social media evolve, so must prospective journalists that want to break into the industry. Being journalism students, we have a general idea of how the world around us will change, and how journalism students much change with it.

One factor for journalism students would be staying up to date with old and new social media. It is clear that social media is the way of the future for journalists. According to the Pew Research Center, nearly a third of American adults regularly get their news from Facebook. Furthermore, a different study from the Pew Research Center found that 86% of Americans get their news via a smartphone, tablet or computer.

We then discussed the potential for a new app that could streamline the way journalists get to the news. The app could work in a way that takes the newsworthy events from around the area and sends them to the journalist who is then given directions on how to get there. This would make journalists be able to get the news out faster and not have to rely on other news agencies to get to the news first.

Finally, we discussed utilizing short videos such as Tik Tok to get news stories out there quickly. According to NiemanLab, several popular news outlets have already begun to utilize Tik Tok to localize stories and to target a younger audience.
