Friends, family and fans of dance filled the seats of Burruss hall to watch the annual fall performance from the Dance Company at Virginia Tech. “The show went smoothly,” Anna Kerr, President of Dance Company, said. “I’m really really proud of how everyone did today.”

The Dance Company combines a wide variety of styles of dance during their performances. According to Kerr, they use tap, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary and lyrical styles of dance and music.

According to the Dance Company at Virginia Tech, they are a student-run organization that focuses on fitness, artistic expression and performance. According to DCVT, the dancers come from diverse and unique dance styles, however, they all share a love for dancing. The dances ranged from the full company being on stage, to solo acts and small group dance routines to exemplify the different styles of dance.

After the company’s performance of Ariana Grande’s “God is a woman”, Julia Smith, Choreographer for the song, gave a short speech. “I am so grateful for these girls and the hard work they have put into this semester,” Smith said. “Thank you for showing up and always rising to the occasion.”

Once the show returned after Intermission, the audience was treated to a guest performance from Paige Godwin and her company from Dance Tech. Godwin owns Dance Tech where DCVT practices and holds auditions for prospective members.

As the show concluded, the company gave their final bows and the two seniors who are graduating in the 2021 winter semester were awarded flowers and had the opportunity to give a small speech that summarized their time on the team.

During the show, the company put on a slideshow presentation welcoming the new additions to DCVT. Finally, while some members of the company took the stage for the last time tonight, there were only smiles on their faces as the audience clapped and cheered.
